The Leicester Longwool

Sir WInston

Winston became world famous by making the statement, "The only thing we have to fear is shear itself." Apart from his speech making career, Winston is a Leicester Longwool sheep.

The Leicester Longwools are also known as Bakewell Leicester, Dishley Leicester, English Leicester, Improved Leicester, Leicester and New Leicester.  For more information click here:  okstate

Winston's breed was almost lost to the United States and was saved, though a tragedy coupled with some luck, by The Colonial Williamsburg Leicester project.

The first Natural Colored Leicester  Longwools were born in 2002 thanks to the AI services of Martin Dally , Super Sire Ltd.  Semen was purchased from Mrs. Elspeth Wilkinson, New Zealand.   At that time, 2004 we are very proud of our  15  Natural Colored Leicesters Longwools.  We here at Hopping Acres strive for breeding excellence and only use  semen from the very TOP Natural Colored Leicester Longwools in the world.
